ok I just did my daily browsing through mmo-champion....and I saw this http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/upcoming-cataclysm-dispel-mechanics/">http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/upcoming-cataclysm-dispel-mechanics/, what is peoples thoughts about it? personally I think it's a huge punch in the face for us shamans (no more dispell poison, GL HF against rogues...)

Being a druid myself, the ability to dispel magic will be nice.. I'm also hoping they do implement one spell rather than 3 for it.

yea, but they actually said something like "there will probably be a spell to remove disease and poison, and if talented, magic aswell"

To me this seems like a kick in the face to those who play a hybrid in pvp. As a pally myself, their loss in particular will be huge. You'll see a lot less of the crap you currently do in arena, where a fully prot spec'd pally is wearing healing gear and able to keep their team mate(s) alive. You'll probably still see some of it, but again just less.
The biggest hit is obviously to the shamans, losing the ability to dispel poisons and diseases entirely. Really wondering how that one will work out in pve content. |

ironically I dont think it will be such a big problem in pve, because there will always be some1 able to dispell (and blizzard already said they will reduce the amounts of dispellable stuff on raid encounters) but instead I think the biggest problem will be the pvp, any team with a rogue in it will have a H.U.G.E advantage against any team with a shaman in it

Honestly I think this is a step in the right direction. Taking abolish/totems out of the game is going to be HUGE and will be a major adjustment for all PvPlayers. Although, I do think this will make druids the NEW HOTNESS if you will for arena.

A lot of these changes for Cata are gonna be weird for vet players imo.... I personally don't know if I'm gonna keep playing WoW, gonna move into competitive console gaming again most likely, because hard modes just aren't cutting it as "progression raiding" and the fact that they are equalizing most of the classes, it looks like pretty soon we're gonna be stuck with Warrior, Rogue, Druid comps in pvp and pve.... it's boring if everyone is the same...

Magic based CC gets a lot worse when Resto druids and shaman can dispel it too and rogues everywhere are jumping for joy (and smoke bombs). Non-healing hybrids take a big hit of course, and I'm still not fond of offensive dispels or lack of magic CC dispel resistance remaining because junk buffs and debuff stacking against dispels just isn't fun.
I like what it's doing for PVE though, where some fights got disproportionately harder without the right kind of dispels. Makes me wonder if they'll change hunter freeze trap and entrapment to physical debuffs. |

I can understand the need for these changes in PvE, due to the fact that 10 mans need more options. Too many times have I seen 3 pallies, a shammy, 3 DKs, 2 hunters and a warlock (example group). The shammy is a healer and can't keep track of dispelling some bosses, and is not specd for decursing. So any curse in raid can do some serious dmg.
From a PvP standpoint, yes rogues shall rejoice! However, when it comes down to it, WoW is a PvE game. Vet Vanilla players will know this too, BGs (believe it or not newer people) did not always exist, I believe WSG/AB showed up around 1.5-6 and AV came a patch or 2 later. Arena can DiAF as far as I'm concerned with rated BGs showing up >.> |
